Each neighborhood in New York City has its share of bodegas and delis that supply everything from grocery items, cleaning supplies and in some cases hardware items for last minute touch ups in apartments.

Where these stores differ from one another is their prepared food sections. This is where you can get your all day Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich on a hero roll to a Chopped Cheese (Two hamburgers chopped with spices and topped with American Cheese, chopped lettuce and chopped tomato) to the classic Bacon Cheese Burgers, Grilled Cheese and a variety of wraps.

I came across Catherine’s Deli & Bagels when touring Chinatown and I just stopped in to look around. I saw the sandwiches that were being made and what was on the grill and knew I had to come back and try it. The grill cook here is excellent and the quality of the food and service were top notch.

The first trip I made to Catherine’s Deli & Bagel, I just missed the cut off on breakfast because the cook was grilling chicken breasts for the lunch sandwiches. So I scanned the extensive menu and decided on a Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla ($4.99). I could not believe the size of the quesadilla. It was larger than my hand.

The quesadilla was filled with freshly grilled chicken breasts and lots of White and Cheddar Cheese mix and spices. Two large grilled quesadilla wraps were grilled to perfection, filled with ingredients and then flipped and grilled and cut into four sections. Each section was like its own sandwich they were so large.

I had to visit Chinatown again a few days later and finally got to order a Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a hero. It was out of this world. The grill cooked grilled two sunny side up eggs with a handful of crisp bacon and topped the mixture with a few slices of American Cheese and then let the ingredients cook together.

He then sliced the roll and grilled it face up with butter and then tucked the items being grilled together inside. The complexity of flavors along with the chewy roll really made the sandwich delicious. Each bite was a nice combination of flavors.

The store sells all sorts of snack items and groceries for the home as well as cleaning supplies and other household items. The deli has a large assortment of items.

The grill cook here is really talented and produces excellent food and large portions at a fair price. A sandwich or platter here will feed you for two meals they are so generous. The quality of everything I tried was wonderful.

Don’t miss this little deli on a side street off the edge of Chinatown.
