I have visited Wah Fung Number One Fast Food Restaurant several times on recommendations from YouTube and reviews on TripAdvisor . It is considered to be one the best restaurants in New York City for Chinese Roast Pork and one of the cheapest (see my reviews on TripAdvisor).

Wah Fung has a simple menu

This tiny hole in the wall restaurant is located across the street from Sara Delano Roosevelt Park, a thin strip of park that separates Chinatown from the Lower East Side. The lines for food that are mentioned online are no exaggeration. The two times I visited during the week the lines were about ten deep but move very quickly. Everyone takes the food to go.

The food is wonderful if you like simple Chinese cooking. They have a set menu that is very reasonable. The restaurant specializes in simple roast meats including roast pork, chicken, duck and pig. The dishes and plate lunches can run anywhere between $4.00-$8.00 with sides of rice, noodles and cabbage. The prices depend on the size of dish you want and how many meats you decide to choose.

The Roast Pork is amazing!

My first trip to Wah Fung I ordered the Roast Pork and Roast Duck combination platter with a side of cabbage and a mound rice ($6.00). The meal was delicious. When I opened the steaming package of food it contained large cuts of lacquered roast dock with the bone in and hunks of deeply lacquered roast pork where the cuts were a rich red all the way through and an exterior sweetness to it.

The roasted meats are excellent and well spiced

You received what must be almost a pound of roast meat with rice and the portion size is large enough to cover both lunch and dinner. Just remember to dig out the bones on the duck.

The second trip to the restaurant I ordered a the small Roast Pork plate with rice (I nixed the cabbage) and for $4.00 was large enough for a full lunch. I received another large mound of white rice with almost the same size portion of chopped Roast Pork. All of the chopped meat is of nice size and has the richness of the pork with the sweetness of the soy/honey sauce that is lathered in it. They even add extra juice to add to the flavor.

This tiny hole in the wall store front has no seating and is strictly take out. On a nice day, take your order and sit on one of the benches in Sara Delano Park and watch the City go by in front of you. Eating on a sunny day in a park in New York City is a wonderful experience.

Don’t miss this delightful little take out restaurant that is popular with both the locals and tourists alike.
